A Bamboo Weaving Jewelry Workshop in Shanghai

Traditional Chinese bamboo weaving jewelry workshop in Shanghai featured in a Japanese travel magazine, showcasing handmade bamboo earrings, rings and brooches from a cultural craft experience.

Last October, our bamboo weaving jewelry workshop in Shanghai was featured and interviewed by the Japanese travel guide aruco Shanghai 2026–27.

The editorial team discovered our workshop through Trip.com while searching for unique cultural experiences in Shanghai. What began as a simple workshop visit soon became a meaningful cultural exchange centered around traditional Chinese bamboo craftsmanship.

During the visit, editor Ms. Tokawa personally joined our bamboo weaving experience and learned how delicate bamboo strips can gradually be transformed into wearable jewelry such as earrings, rings, and brooches.

Unlike many short DIY activities, bamboo weaving requires patience, coordination, and careful hand movement. Because of its complexity, we have spent a long time developing a workshop structure that allows beginners to experience authentic bamboo weaving while still being able to complete their own handmade pieces within a limited time.

To make the process more approachable, we created a reverse step-by-step teaching method.

Participants first practice pulling and weaving techniques using semi-prepared materials before gradually moving on to the complete process from scratch. This method helps beginners understand the structure and rhythm of bamboo weaving more naturally and confidently.

With this workshop design, even first-time participants can usually complete a full set of bamboo weaving jewelry — including earrings, rings, or brooches — within approximately 2.5 hours.

During the interview, photographer Ms. Sayaka also became deeply interested in the craft and decided to try one of the semi-prepared weaving pieces herself.

Although she laughed and said, “It’s difficult, but very rewarding,” she continued weaving with great concentration until the end.

Moments like this are exactly why we continue sharing traditional Chinese crafts with travelers from around the world.

For us, bamboo weaving is not only a handmade activity. It is also a way to slow down, focus, and experience a quieter side of Chinese culture through the movement of the hands.

We are truly honored to have our workshop introduced in aruco Shanghai 2026–27, and we sincerely thank the editorial team for featuring our experience.

If you are looking for a unique cultural activity in Shanghai, we warmly welcome you to join our Bamboo Weaving Jewelry Workshop and discover the beauty of this traditional Chinese craft for yourself.
