Tripadvisor review: Vegan Soup Dumpling Making in Shanghai

Fabulous Chinese cooking class with Chinese culture sprinkled

“Highly recommend this Xiaolongbao soup dumpling cooking class! Chef Yin is an excellent cook who does a great job of teaching and providing hands-on cooking experience to participants. She is also engaging and personable and throughout the class, it was great to hear stories about China and Chinese culture and really get a deeper understanding of the country that we were visiting. Chef Yin can also customize cooking classes for you depending on what Chinese food you want to learn how to make, which is great because my son and husband like specific Chinese dishes that I can learn how to make.”

Delicious food, incredible host!

“Really great experience! Yin clearly loves what she does, it showed in every aspect of the class.
She sent a video with instructions on how to get to the location which was very helpful. The class started with a tour of a nearby market, where Yin showed us some of the ingredients we would be using. Once back at the studio she explained the recipes we would be making. We were a chatty group and Yin was great to talk to. The class was well structured and myself and my partner both left feeling as though we had learned things even though we were at different cooking skill levels. Yin helped where needed, explained everything thoroughly, and also made sure we did a lot of cooking ourselves. The four recipes we made were absolute hits and I will definitely be making them at home! We got to take some leftovers with us which was much appreciated! Yin also shared written versions of the recipes on Whatsapp with me afterwards.
There was one other person in our class so we had a group of 3 which was a good size - it was great to meet and get to know someone else travelling China in such a warm, welcoming environment. I cooked with Yin and my partner cooked with the other class member which was a lot of fun.
If you are looking for a fun afternoon in Shanghai where you can learn some Chinese cooking and eat your delicious creations this class is a great option and I would highly recommend it!”

Viator review: Camellia Jewelry: Bamboo Weaving for Brooch, Earring & Ring

“I took this class on my last day in China and I am so glad I did. Yin gave great instructions on how to make it to her studio (she even has a video) and met me outside. We greeted the local cats in the building and then we began to make our jewelry. I enjoyed talking to Yin and the end results turned out pretty close to to the professionally made ones in the photos. She even provided me glue to finish attaching the last items back at my hotel so I didn't have to sit around waiting for them to dry.”

Viator review: Vegan Soup Dumpling Making in Shanghai

Made my Shanghai trip worth it. Best teacher, awesome class and delicious food.

Yin is an awesome teacher who showed me how to make delicious vegan dumplings. All the steps were included (except chopping up the dumpling filling very thinly - she had already prepared it and it saved time to focus on the dumpling making itself). The hardest part for me was rolling out the dough. The folding method for the dumplings is really fast to learn. While cooking and preparing you can chat with Yin like a friend who you have known a long time. She also gives you tips where to go, what to see etc.

After you made the dumplings and they are ready to eat you can enjoy them in the kitchen with Yin.

I loved this class abd it's a little different expericence but so worth it. 100% can recommend!:)

Very recommendable authentic cooking experience

Very nice chinese cooking experience in an authentic private space. Yin is an open and eloquent person who likes to tell all about cooking yet also everything about Shanghai and China. The dishes that we made under Yin's supervision were very tasty. Not too complicated for a beginner chef, yet done the 'Chinese way' made them very enjoyable. Yin is a patient teacher and helps out wherever needed. We will cherish the memory of this afternoon in our hearts.
